RAF Brize Norton near Carterton in Oxfordshire is the largest station in the Royal Air Force and is the home of the country's air-to-air refuelling support and air transport squadrons.
The closure of RAF Lyneham in Wiltshire in July 2011 saw the transfer of the Hercules transport squadrons stationed there, to Brize Norton. As a result the Oxfordshire station has been undergoing an extensive development programme to upgrade accommodation and facilities necessary for the population of the base to increase from 4000 to 7500 military and civilian personnel.
Aricab Architects have been appointed lead designers by Turners Facilities Management for a programme of works scheduled to extend to 2014. Projects completed to date include the fitting out of two 6000 m2 Aircraft Hangers to provide parts storage and engine and propeller maintenance for the Hercules squadrons. The 2010-11 programme of works saw the completion of 25 individual projects for which Aricab provided design services.
